Retirement--Every Age Has Dates. The Clock Started with Your First Paycheck. Retirement is not an age. It is a set of dates that starts with your first paycheck — not your last day of work. Join fellow Cornell alumni, faculty and staff for a 30-minute awareness conversation built for an audience that spans recently minted graduates to six-decades post-graduation. Two Cornellians — a wealth advisor, and a Medicare and Social Security specialist — will map the milestones that quietly reshape income, taxes, healthcare costs and claiming choices. Some of those dates sit at 50, 59½, 62, 65, 67, 70 and 73. The ones that matter first likely sit much earlier: your first 401(k), your first Roth, your first house-versus-savings tradeoff. This is not a seminar, not a product pitch, and not personalized advice. You will leave with a clearer picture of the tradeoffs that actually move the needle at every chapter: what a modest start at 28 can still become, what catch-up looks like at age 35 / 45 / 55, why “max the 401(k)” is not always the right next move if a house, a business or a young family is still in your plans, and why Social Security is an income line while Medicare is a cost line. Our speakers: Sophia Stuart-Rockefeller, Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch and Captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserve; EMBA ’28, PhD. A former academic scientist who rebuilt a second career in military finance and wealth planning, Sophia works with households on tax optimization, retirement design and the asset map most Cornellians never fully assemble — 401(k)/403(b)/TSP, Roth and backdoor Roth, HSA, and the windows that open early and close later. Elaine Wong Eakin, Independent Medicare and Social Security Advisor and founder of WongEakin Retirement Benefits Planning; BA ’87, JD. Twenty-plus years inside the Medicare system — from SHIP volunteer at the launch of Part D to statewide trainer to independent practice — Elaine translates program rules into decisions people can actually use: when to claim, what to do with the October mail, and how enrollment windows change the cost of later life. Even if those windows feel far away, knowing they exist changes what you fund now. Walk away with a shared language for the next chapter — whether you are 28 and can still compound a modest start, 48 and mid-career, or 62 and staring at the first of the statutory gates. Then stay for lightning-round alumni introductions and open networking built for mutually useful commercial outcomes. Educational only. Views are the speakers’ own and are not official guidance of Merrill Lynch, any plan sponsor, or CTBN. Talk with an advisor who knows you before you act. Register Now.
