These policies apply to the CTBN4Cornellians.com website and member platform at ctbn4cornellians.com. Questions: admin@ctbn4cornellians.com.

1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of CTBN4Cornellians.com ("CTBN") website, member portal, events, communications, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). CTBN is a volunteer-led professional networking community for Cornell alumni and affiliated Cornellians.

By applying for membership, creating an account, registering for an event, or otherwise using the Services, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

CTBN (Cornell Technology Business Network (CTBN), an unincorporated volunteer association) works in affiliation with Cornell University Division of Alumni Affairs and Development. It is not operated by Cornell University; references to Cornell identify the community we serve.

2. Eligibility and membership

  • Membership is intended for Cornell alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents, and other Cornell-affiliated individuals who wish to participate in CTBN professional networking activities.
  • You must provide accurate, current information when applying and keep your profile reasonably up to date.
  • Applications may be reviewed before access is granted. CTBN may approve, defer, or decline membership in its discretion.
  • CTBN may suspend or terminate membership for conduct that violates these Terms, harms other members, disrupts events, or is inconsistent with the community's purpose.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your sign-in credentials and for activity under your account.

3. Community standards

CTBN exists to help Cornellians connect professionally in a respectful, inclusive environment. When using the Services or participating in events, you agree to:

  • Treat other members, speakers, volunteers, and organizers with professionalism and respect.
  • Use member directory information, contact details, and event participant lists only for appropriate professional networking — not for unsolicited mass marketing, spam, scraping, or resale.
  • Not harass, discriminate against, impersonate, or misrepresent yourself or your affiliation with Cornell or CTBN.
  • Not upload unlawful, defamatory, infringing, or otherwise harmful content.
  • Comply with applicable laws and with any event-specific rules communicated by organizers.

4. Events and virtual participation

CTBN hosts forums, NetConnect sessions, mixers, and other professional events, often virtually. By registering for or attending an event, you acknowledge that:

  • Event schedules, speakers, formats, and access links may change.
  • Virtual sessions may be recorded. Recordings, screenshots, chat logs, and related materials may be retained and used by CTBN for community operations, follow-up communications, member education, and promotion of future CTBN activities.
  • You are responsible for your own conduct and for any information you choose to share during an event.
  • Third-party platforms used to deliver events (such as Zoom) are subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

5. Profile information and communications

  • You control much of the information in your member profile. Certain fields may be visible to other active members through the member directory or event networking features, as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • By joining CTBN, you consent to receive operational communications related to your account, membership status, event registrations, and assigned volunteer roles.
  • You may also receive CTBN announcements about upcoming events and community opportunities. You may opt out of non-essential marketing emails as described on our Unsubscribe page.
  • Do not share another member's personal contact information outside CTBN without that person's consent.

6. Release and hold harmless

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to release and hold harmless Cornell University, CTBN, its volunteer organizers, Applied Commerce Technology Inc. (d/b/a ACT4Value), Pivot Point Analytics, event hosts, sponsors, and other parties associated with CTBN from claims, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of or related to:

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

  • Your participation in CTBN events or use of the Services.
  • Interactions with other members, speakers, or third parties.
  • Technical interruptions, scheduling changes, or content presented by guest speakers.
  • Your reliance on information shared through CTBN channels.

7. Intellectual property

  • CTBN names, logos, event materials, email templates, and site content are owned by CTBN or its licensors and may not be copied or reused without permission.
  • You retain ownership of content you submit, but grant CTBN a non-exclusive license to use, display, and distribute that content as needed to operate the Services and run events.
  • Guest speaker materials remain the property of the respective speakers or presenters.

8. Third-party services

The Services rely on third-party providers for hosting, authentication, email delivery, spam protection, and analytics. Your use of those features may be subject to additional provider terms. CTBN is not responsible for third-party services outside its reasonable control.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." CTBN DOES NOT GUARANTEE UNINTERRUPTED ACCESS, SPECIFIC NETWORKING OUTCOMES, EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, INVESTMENT RESULTS, OR THE ACCURACY OF MEMBER-SUPPLIED INFORMATION.

CTBN does not provide legal, financial, investment, medical, or other professional advice. Event discussions and member profiles reflect individual opinions and experiences only.

10. Changes and termination

  • CTBN may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
  • Continued use of the Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
  • You may stop using the Services at any time. CTBN may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or if continued participation is not in the community's interest.

11. Governing law and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections apply in your jurisdiction.

Questions about these Terms may be sent to admin@ctbn4cornellians.com.
